ABOUT TEXAS SERVICE DOGS

We are dedicated to assisting and encouraging force-free and humane training methods to enrich the human-animal bond.

WHO WE ARE

Texas Service Dogs (TXSD) is a nonprofit, charitable organization that is committed to improving the lives of individuals with physical and psychiatric disabilities. It is our goal to enrich the human-animal bond by providing trained dogs with those who qualify. Although we are headquartered in Austin, Texas, Texas Service Dogs serves disabled clients—adults and children—throughout the entire nation.

OUR HISTORY

TXSD was founded by Samantha (Sammye) Darling, who spent many years raising and training service dogs through various nonprofit organizations. Sammye is well known for her fervent love for animals and helping people. While growing up, Sammye spent time with an array of animal species and volunteered regularly for shelters, rescues and the special needs community. While studying psychology at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, Sammye recognized the opportunity to learn about disabilities and learning theories and methods. Immediately upon graduating in May 2015, Sammye established TXSD.

OUR MISSION

TXSD is dedicated to educating the public about and promoting the use of service dogs and the state and federal laws pertaining to them; placing highly qualified, task-trained service dogs to increase the safety and independence of adults and children with psychiatric and physical disabilities; encouraging and assisting with animal rescue and force-free or humane training methods to enrich lives and the human-animal bond.

It is only possible for us to carry out our mission through the generosity of our donors, volunteers and board of directors.
